A National Identification Number (NID) is a unique number assigned by a government to identify a person in official records and systems. In Ireland, the NID is referred to as the Personal Public Service Number (PPSN).
Where to find it
A NID is usually found on official documents such as:
- National ID card
- Passport
- Driver’s license
- Residence permit
- Tax documents
It is often labelled as “Personal code”, “ID number”, or “National ID” on these documents.
